SONG – Blank Space by Taylor Swift (Lyrical queen…. Just my opinion)
BACKDROP – Total AU.
Nice to meet you! Where you been?
I can show you incredible things.
Magic, madness, heaven, sin.
Saw you there and I thought,
Oh my God, look at that face.
You look like my next mistake.
Love’s a game, wanna play?
Hi!!! I am Riddhima Kapoor, a reporter for the Mumbai Chronicle Posts. That sounds like a pretty high up job, but that isn’t the case. I am just starting out as an intern. There were several interns that all wanted one of two things, to be a reporter for the celebrity or political world. If you’re lucky, you could even report on both.
The competition to get a higher job position was pretty simple, yet kind of complicated. The simple part was the general idea of how you work your way up the food chain. You find a good story to follow that no other reporter already has, they usually promote you for good sleuthing skills. The complicated part was that you had to be super secretive with any good lead you found. The people you worked with were like piranhas. It wouldn’t be fair to say you weren’t a piranha like them too considering most reporters are.
People get the idea that reporters have no conscience or are since we like to pry into other people’s lives and publish what we find for all the world to see. That is kind of a shit move, I agree, but it’s part of the job. I have gone as far as considering a different career sometimes. I thought all of these things before you even met the biggest story, and biggest decision, of my life. He was the genius, billionaire, philanthropist that everyone knew as Vansh Rai Singhania.
New money, suit and tie
I can read you like a magazine
Ain’t it funny, rumors fly
And I know you heard about me
So hey, let’s be friends
I’m dying to see how this one ends
Grab your passport and my hand
I can make the bad guys good for a weekend
I was sitting at my desk in a cubicle. It was going to be 4 o’clock in the evening. One more hour you had to sit in this cramped up space before you rushed home to get ready for your breakthrough.
I had dug up a possible story idea on Vanh Rai Singhania. After reading through several articles and tweets about it, you decided it was worth the sleuth to see if it’s true. The theory was that he was having an affair with a married model, and there was a possibility it was more serious than just s*x. One assumption suggested the model could file for divorce from her band leader husband to be with the highly acclaimed billionaire she was sneaking around with. More than likely, Vansh was just using her for the s*x and she was about to get her world smashed to pieces. That’s if the story is even true ,and that is what I was going to find out.
There was a big exposition tonight for the tech world. All the biggest names in modern inventions would be there. More important than the giant expo, there was a black-tie party afterwards. That was where you were going.
So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game
When I exited the elevator at 5:05 P.M., I practically sprinted home. The exposition had been going on all day, leaving the party to follow at 7. That meant you had roughly an hour to get ready, give or take. I had hoped traffic would be light so that I had extra time to gather myself. It was a black-tie event after all. Everyone there would have a salary 3 figures larger than mine, meaning they would all look the part. The only thing I could do about that was fake it ’til I make it.
I unlocked the door to my small apartment at 5:15, and managed to take a shower in 10 minutes. I barely had time to put on a fresh face of makeup, much less spend an hour taming the beast of hair I had. That meant I slicked it into a professional high bun, leaving a few pieces toward the front hanging down. I took a curling wand loosely to them to add definition, and slipped on the little black dress I spent a month’s salary on.
I gave myself one last look in the mirror, surprised by the change a pricey dress could do to my level of confidence.
‘Cause we’re young and we’re reckless
We’ll take this way too far
It’ll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
But I’ve got a blank space, baby
And I’ll write your name
Cherry lips, crystal skies
I could show you incredible things
Stolen kisses, pretty lies
You’re the king, baby, I’m your queen
Find out what you want
Be that girl for a month
Wait, the worst is yet to come
I arrived at the party a mere five minutes after it started. I paid the cab driver, whom I had asked to drop me off at the street a block before the party. I thought it might ruin the mood to show up in a cab, while everyone else was dropped off by a limo or skidding to a stop in the newest lambo.
The bright lights of VR Mansion ahead, combined with the loud thumping music, let me know the party was already at full swing. I slowed your stride fifty feet before the building to take in the view. I also needed a minute to gather my thoughts and go over my plan. I had my reporter’s pass in my clutch handbag, alongside my phone. I had some cash with me, but the cab fare took care of that quickly. Taking a deep breath, I gave myself the last bit of pep talk and took confident steps toward the doors.
Security stopped me at the entrance, asking for my name. I quickly flashed my reporter’s pass to the large bouncer, letting out a long-held breath once I had passed him. I wasn’t sure whether that pass would work, considering it was every bit fake. At least it looked real enough to make it into the party. Now was the part where you hunted down Vansh Rai Singhania.
Screaming, crying, perfect storms
I can make all the tables turn
Rose garden filled with thorns
Keep you second-guessing like
“Oh my God, who is she?”
I get drunk on jealousy
But you’ll come back each time you leave
‘Cause darling, I’m a nightmare dressed like a daydream
I figured the best place to start was the bar. Not only would it be the most likely place to find Vansh, but it would also be nice to have a drink to relax. I needed to cool down now that I was in the calmer part of my non-stop plan.
“What’ll it be?” The young bartender tried to appear suave. Tried being the key word.
“Give me a Long Island.” I requested.
He handed you the made drink and went on to take another order.
I touched the cold glass to my lips, letting it slide down my throat in a slow sip. Nothing like a Long Island to calm my nerves. I gazed around the packed hall, looking for any sign of VR. I alternated between swirling my drink and taking smooth sips of it. This went on for ten minutes before I spotted him mid-sip.
So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game
I took one last big sip of my drink before standing up to go talk to VR, when I noticed him approaching me instead. I quickly sat back down on the bar stool, trying to look like I hadn’t noticed him. Guess my plan was about to become a lot easier, or a lot harder than originally thought.
He wore a smug smirk on his lips as he sauntered over to me. He took his eyes off me, and glanced at the empty glass on the bar beside me.
“Can I get you another?” He asked, then looked back from the glass to me.
“Please.” I obliged, then offered my hand for him to shake. “I’m Riddhima Kapoor.”
“Vansh Rai Singhania.” He took my hand in his, bringing it to his lips to place a chaste kiss on my knuckles. “Of course, you probably knew that.”
I almost lost my train of thoughts while looking into his chocolate brown eyes. I mentally got my focus back from where it was running off to and spoke, “Mr. Rai Singhania. Of course. You‘ll have to pardon my staring. It’s just that you’re more handsome in person.”
I decided flirting was the best way into getting him to answer even one of my questions. Plus, I sincerely meant it. Better yet, I said it with such a sultry tone that I was surprised. It was enough to bring the smirk back to the handsome billionaire’s face.
“Bartender” He summoned the young boy over, “Get me a good old scotch on the rocks and another of what she’s having..?”
“Long Island.” You reminded the bartender, clearly what VR was implying for me to do.
“I should’ve known.” He let out a light chuckle.
“What’s so funny, Mr. Rai Singhania?” I asked with evident sarcasm, and slight curiosity.
“You’re a vodka drinker.” He replied. “I should’ve known.”
“And what would make you come to that conclusion?” I asked, curious where he was going with this.
“Beautiful women with a figure like yours drink vodka.” He stated, simply.
I let a smile slip over my lips, a laugh threatening to escape as I came back with, “Is that the best line you’ve got?”
Laughing in response to my comeback he said, “It appears so, yes.”
“Then it’s a good thing you’re a handsome man.” I replied as I picked up my glass. I held it out to clink it with his, adding, “Cheers Mr. Rai Singhania. Thanks for the drink and a laugh.”
“Oh please, call me Vansh!” He stated, taking a swig of his scotch.
“Vansh, then.” I obliged, taking a sip of the drink in my hand.
“Can I be honest with you, Riddhima?” He dropped his gaze to the drink he was swirling in his hand.
“Please do, Vansh.” I put emphasis on his name to show my use of it versus his surname.
“I’d like to give you more than a drink and a laugh.” He spoke in a gravely tone that sent a hot fire from your belly button to just in between my thighs. I had a feeling my drink was aiding this sensation.
“What makes you think I’d leave here with you?” I asked with as much resistance as I could put in my tone. Hard to get would be your ploy here.
“Because I know you’re a reporter.” He sighed. “Looking for answers to give you a sleazy story that any of the other journalists at your business, and others too I’m sure, would be envious of.”
“I- I-“ I attempted to defend myself, but I hadn’t expected the conversation to take this turn.
“You don’t have to defend your piranha-like behaviors to me.” He put his hand up to stop me as he spoke. “I get it. You have to work to live.”
“I am embarrassed, Vansh. I am sorry so many other journalists made you feel so hateful toward us as a whole.” I was telling the truth, somewhat. I knew how heartless reporters could be and I hated it, but I also knew it was how I got paid for food and shelter.
“I’ll tell you what, Riddhima.” Vansh started, “I’ll answer three yes-or-no questions for you.”
I lit up at this response, searching his eyes for a reason why he would want to answer any question I had. Finding none, I decided to ask, “Why would you answer my questions?”
A smirk, once again, graced his lips as he spoke, “Because, Ms. Kapoor, I think that as crazy as reporters like you are in the world above, how crazy must they be under the sheets?”
‘Cause we’re young and we’re reckless
We’ll take this way to far
It’ll leave you breathless
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
But I’ve got a blank space, baby
And I’ll write your name
Boys only want love if it’s torture
Don’t say I didn’t, say I didn’t warn ya
Boys only want love if it’s torture
Don’t say I didn’t, say I didn’t warn ya
My eyes fluttered open. The first thing I noticed was the pounding headache blurring my thoughts. After a few bouts of squinting my eyes shut, I pushed the headache far enough back to notice another thing. I wasn’t in my bed.
I peered over my shoulder to see a sleeping, or more likely passed out, Vansh Rai Singhania. I bit my lip in frustration and tried to recall the previous night’s events to my mind. There was quite a bit of alcohol involved, made obvious by the headache I was currently suffering through. I remembered him bringing me back to his penthouse. Once there, I vaguely remembered having some more drinks. Then it all went fuzzy. One thing was for sure, I had slept with him. My lack of clothes answered that for me.
I slowly crawled out of bed and looked around for my dress. I found it, my heels, and my bra. The only thing missing was my panties. Great. After getting dressed, I peered out the door into the hallway and looked both ways. No sign of anyone, so I stepped out. I picked up my heels, and walked out.
So it’s gonna be forever
Or it’s gonna go down in flames
You can tell me when it’s over
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They’ll tell you I’m insane
‘Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game
It hit me that I forgot about my clutch. It was probably in the bedroom. I was barely out of the kitchen space when I spotted a notepad and pen on the side of the fridge. I took the pen and started to write.
I was on my way out of the bedroom, with my clutch in hand, when I set the freshly-written note on the nightstand beside Vansh. I tiptoed out of the room, put my heels on, and stepped into the elevator. I thought over what I wrote on the notepaper…
“ Mr. Rai Singhania (Vansh),
I wish I remembered enough of last night to say I had a good time. Going by your track record with the ladies, I’d say it was probably fine.
Being as I don’t remember anything from last night, I don’t know if you answered the questions that you promised you would give me an answer to. In your defense, I was probably too drunk to even ask them.
If you feel like keeping your promise or buying me another drink, give me a call.

Kisses,
Riddhima Kapoor “
